Prep wrestling: Four Hawks headed to state

FAIRBANKS — Four Houston Hawks finished in the top three of the Mid-Alaska Conference Championships and have advanced to the 4A state tournament.

Arron Reese was the lone Houston grappler to reach the MAC finals, and posted a second-place finish during the MAC Championships at North Pole High School on Saturday.

Drew Drake (125), Andy Gocke (145) and Garrett Elder (152) finished third for the Hawks.

Gabe Melin (103) and Caleb Hendrix (160) just missed a spot in the state tourney with fourth-place finishes.

The ASAA/First National Bank 4A State Championships begin Friday at Chugiak High School in Eagle River.
