Valley Garden Club member Florene Carney mixes a batch of
concrete Saturday morning at the Honor Garden in Wasilla. Carney
along with several other members were setting the pole that the
Blue Star memorial plaque will be mounted to. The Blue Star
Memorial began in the 1940s to honor World War II veterans, but in
1951 the program was enlarged to to include all men and women, who
had served, were serving or would serve in the armed forces of the
United States. This is the seventh marker in the state. The others
are in Tok, Anchorage, Kenai (Anchor Point), Ketchikan, Fairbanks
and Juneau.
