For most people, their home is their biggest investment. It’s security in old age. It’s where you are happiest and safest.
Mat-Su Borough Prop. 1 puts all that in danger. Prop. 1 would allow your neighbors to build essentially whatever they like, no matter what it does to your property value. There are no public hearings. In fact, no one even has to tell you that a change is coming.
Then what happens to your home? To your investment? To your peace of mind and your piece of the world? Who protects your property values from your neighbor building pretty much whatever he wants?
This is already happening in Oregon, where the sponsors found this law and copied it — flaws and all. The sponsors of Prop. 1 will tell you that these things can’t happen. They’ll tell you that it only applies to laws that haven’t been written yet. They’ll tell you it protects property values.
They’re wrong.
Mat-Su Borough Prop. 1 is deeply flawed and will hurt property values and property rights. On Oct. 2, protect yourself. Vote “no” on Prop. 1.
