Proposed development poses safety issues

To the editor,

Recently several letters to the editor have expressed concern with the high-density housing project that is proposed for the area between the MTA Events Center and the Job Corps facility. I share these concerns. I believe there is an additional potential problem that has not been considered. With 88 housing units as proposed, will come a lot of young children. Depending on the location of access to the facility it is likely many children will be crossing Cope Industrial Way to get to the bicycle path and the middle school. The posted speed limit on Cope Industrial is 25 mph. Most drivers come close to honoring it, however speeds of 50 to 60 MPH are not at all unusual.

This will present an obvious safety problem.

Perhaps a better use for the property in question would be for expansion of the adjacent athletic fields.
