Protect the U.S. and its constitution

To the editor:

I have listened to the ads, read the Voter’s Pamphlet, mailers and last but not least viewed the voting records of those that I could. I think that my mind is made up. Well, sort of. I have noticed that there is a lot of what the modern world calls “spin” in everything I read. In my day, my father would call it lying. Partial truths, not giving the whole story and not giving credit where credit is due, was an invitation to meet the palm of his hand. Some of our politicians need a trip to the woodshed!

My determining factor was decided by how happy I am with the way things are presently going. Am I happy with Obamacare? Is Benghazi important to me? Are secure borders a plus or minus? Would quarantine work for Ebola? Why are common sense solutions to national problems dismissed? Would a pipeline destroy middle America?

Do I want a carbon tax? Or an Internet Tax? Is voter ID burdensome? Why is the Senate sitting on so many bills and not allowing them to be voted on? Why is the answer to all of the above, “A hike in taxes”? Why are we dismissing more than 3,000 lives a day in the form of abortion? Could one of those lives have discovered a cure for ebola? Cancer? We may very well be our own worst enemy. Is the best tax a flat tax and do away with the IRS? Why does every problem the government has go unsolved and lead to more chaos?

To narrow my selection, I reviewed the above questions and others. Several times. I did not single out just one issue that I was passionate about, such as education. To be my choice the candidate had to represent them all well. They had to either have a good voting record on those issues or speak to the issue with common sense. No side-stepping and no spin. My selections were pockmarked with those things that I did not like, but they were the best selection for me. I know there is no perfect candidate.

What do I ask from you? Do the same thing as I did. If you do not have the time, just ask yourself, “am I happy with what is happening now?” If not then change it!! To bring this to a close, there is a group of identifiable Americans of which 50 percent are not registered to vote. Among those who are registered, only 50 percent of them vote! That is shameful. Shameful to treat such a gift as America so flippantly! We are casting our duty and thus our freedom away. Make no mistake, the U.S. and its Constitution are gifts, and we had better be as concerned about them as we are the water we drink and the air we breath.
