My 90-year-old father recently relocated to Alaska. What a learning experience it has been and how fortunate I am to live in the Mat-Su Valley.
I began a whirlwind of activities, securing a local physician who accepts Medicare, getting a state identification card, transferring Social Security and Medicare services, setting up a bank account, etc. How glad I was to find the Palmer Senior Center, which loans senior-friendly equipment, commodes, walkers and other equipment at no cost! Did you know it provides free transportation (in the Valley) as well?
I am grateful to Ellen Gantly (care coordinator) with the Palmer Senior Center, who helped me find an assisted living facility. She is a wealth of knowledge on the many services available to seniors in the Mat-Su Valley.
For those who may be looking for a safe, comfortable living arrangement for yourself or a loved one, I highly recommend Two Sisters Assisted Living Home. It has given me such peace of mind knowing that such loving and professional caregivers are my caring for my father.
The competent staff provides a clean, peaceful, positive atmosphere, treating residents with respect while protecting their privacy. I can pop in unannounced at any time and find my father enjoying a delicious meal, socializing with other residents or sitting in the sunshine. It’s nice to know that my input is encouraged and respected.
And if that weren’t enough, I am delighted to see the brand new Palmer Senior Center nearing completion and tentatively opening the end of August. I certainly am proud to live in such a senior-friendly community.
