Butte Rescue
Moses Larson of the Butte set out on a hike from one side of the trail to the other and thought he would climb rock faces along the way. Larson fell between 75-100 feet and needed to be airlifted to Providence for his non-life-threatening injuries. Butte FD responded within 50 minutes after the initial call came in at 8:31 p.m. and arrived to find Larson at 9:21. Due to his location, transporting him on the trail would be dangerous and may have taken too long.
The Alaska Mountain Rescue Group was contacted by AST and eventually assistance was required of the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center. Two rescuers were lowered and hoisted Larson back to the chopper. Larson was hiking alone and was found near Sandvik Circle on the south face of the Butte.
