PUBLISHER’S NOTEBOOK: Salute to the graduates

As area high schools and colleges hold graduation ceremonies, it’s a great reminder to us who have long passed our graduation year to remember how full of optimism and anxiousness we were to begin our journey into the world of adulthood. These young people will enter our world now. Let us help guide and mentor them as they cross our paths.

The Mat-Su Valley School District does a phenomenal job in educating and preparing our area youth for life as an adult. As I interact with young adults where they’re working, whether at the grocery store or restaurants, I find them to be engaged, polite and impressive. This is a testament to all of those who have teamed up to support them through their formative years. Parents, teachers and students, we at the Frontiersman salute you for your accomplishments with this year’s graduating classes. We hope you took time to enjoy the journey and wish you all well in your future endeavors.

Bike Rodeo

Mat-Su Regional Medical Center is hosting their annual Bike Rodeo at the Curtis D Menard Sports Center on Saturday. Kindergarteners through 12th graders are invited to bring their bikes and helmets. Starting at 10:30 a.m. they can receive bike maintenance, bicycle safety skills and ride the obstacle course. One-hundred helmets will be handed out and there is a chance to win one of four bikes to be given away plus other prizes.

And it’s all free! Sounds like fun for the kids.

Palmer Buzz

If you are a Facebooker check out the new Palmer Alaska Buzz. I like this page because it’s all about celebrating Palmer with a little news and mostly what’s happening. None of that trolling you see on other community pages. Couple of items from the page and our pages in Palmer. The Palmer Library is wrapping up their annual book sale today and tomorrow. Still a lot great books, movies, music and so forth to buy. All proceeds go to the Palmer Public Library.

Palmer city wide cleanup is today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and tomorrow kicks off with a barbeque at 11:30 a.m., plus a bike raffle at noon. For more info call Ailis at the City of Palmer, 745-3400.
