Quake rattles the region, no damage reported

MAT SU — A 5.2-magnitude earthquake rolled through the Upper Susitna Valley Wednesday afternoon and was felt as far away as Anchorage.

The temblor struck at 2:57 p.m. at Skwentna, about 40 miles southwest of Talkeetna and about 25 miles from Willow, the U.S. Geological Survey reports.

“I felt that,” said Eric Johnson Jr. of the Northwoods Lodge on Fish Lakes Creek in Skwentna, very near the epicenter. “Normally an earthquake doesn’t make me bulge my eyes out. It shook a little longer than most.”

Johnson said he was conversing online with a friend in Anchorage when the quake hit and his friend also felt the quake.

Store owners in Willow and Talkeetna reported no damage from the shaker.

It was centered at 62 degrees north, 150 degrees west, the USGA reports.
