QUEENS OF QUILTING

Valley Quilters Guild member Jo Childs lays out a quilt top so she can measure it Thursday at the Palmer Train Depot. The quilters guild, which was started with 13 people in 1985, has grown to more than 200 members. The guild donates its handmade quilts to organizations such as The Red Cross, Palmer Senior Daycare Center, Hospice Alaska, Family Promise, Alaska State Troopers and Wasilla Police Department. One quilt can take more than 80 hours from start to finish. About 90 percent of the materials used to make the quilts is donated. Valley Quilters meets the first Thursday of the month at the Palmer Train Depot.
