More than 160 quilts were donated by 93 quilters for the Court-Appointed Special Advocates for Children silent auction held in November. The quilts raised $15,584 for the program, which trains volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children in court. More than half of the quilts were donated by the Valley Quilters Guild.
The Valley Quilters Guild also donated 100 quilts to various agencies and individuals in 2003.
Quilts were donated to the Office of Children's Services, Palmer Senior Day Care, Burchell High School, Palmer Police, Alaska State Troopers and individuals or families in the community who have experienced a fire or other natural disaster.
Fund-raising for these service quilts come from the sale of quilts made by the members, either at silent auctions or raffles.
The Valley Quilters Guild's next raffle quilt is called Dresden Delight, a Dresden plate made from reproduction fabrics, which will be held May 6.
Tickets are for sale at local quilt shops and from guild members. The quilt may be viewed at the Iditarod Small Quilt Auction in the Cottonwood Creek Mall March 6 and 7.
The Valley Quilters Guild meets the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Palmer Train Depot. Guests are welcome.
