To the editor:
As you may be aware, I am a candidate for the Matanuska Electric Association Board of Directors in the upcoming April 16 election.
I write to express my grave concern in connection with the interview process that was purportedly conducted by the MEA Nominating Committee on Thursday. Again, as you may be aware, under Article IV, Section 4(a) of MEA’s bylaws, the nominating committee is composed of seven members. In fact, only three members of the committee were in attendance during that meeting of the committee when the decision was made as to who would be on the ballot. Accordingly, a quorum of the committee was lacking, so the committee was incapable of taking any action in an official capacity.
Under MEA’s schedule, the committee is required to submit its list of approved nominees to MEA’s secretary by Monday. There is simply insufficient time for the committee to muster a quorum and then attempt to interview the candidates prior to that date.
Hence, my position is that the committee has waived its opportunity to properly interview the candidates and all candidates are otherwise eligible to serve on MEA’s board under Article IV, Section 3 of the bylaws.
As time is plainly of the essence, I request your confirmation of my position prior to the close of business Monday so that I may pursue all other remedies that may be available to me.
