Retherford hitches long sought after win

WASILLA -- The drivers of Full Throttle Saturday Night at North Star Speedway in Wasilla were back in the drivers seat Saturday for Alaska Sales and Service Night at the Races. With the first sunny race day of the 2003 season, drivers did their best to grab up points in the championship race.

Wasilla's David Retherford squealed his way to his first feature win in three years in the thunder stock division. Retherford, an instrumental supporter of the class, navigated his way through tense traffic for the victory over Anchorageâs Gary Keeling and Retherford's teammate Tim Mutch.

Mike Thomas became the fourth different winner in four weeks Saturday, driving his way to the checkers followed by Doug Johnstone and Doug Sheldon in the legends division. Eagle River's Larry Theobald duplicated his feature win last Saturday by prevailing in the baby grands feature main out maneuvering Mike Thomas and Willie Creech through lap traffic in the final laps of the race.

Racing continues this Saturday with Spenard Builders Supply Salute to Fathers Day. Admission is $10. Kids under 10 are free.

Gates open at 4 p.m, Racing starts at 6 p.m.
