BUTTE -- Several thousand race fans gathered at Alaska Raceway Park in the Butte last weekend to fill their thirst of smoke, burning rubber and drag racing action.

The local drag strip hosted the first Bad Boy Shootout.

The event featured an Alaska driver, Jamie Bodenstat, gunning for a national record in the quarter-mile in his "Yellow Alaskan Grizz" car. Bodenstat completed the quarter-mile in 5.81 seconds at 258 mph, just missing the national mark of 5.4 seconds. Though Bodenstat missed the national mark, he did break the Alaska Raceway Park record in his nitro methane powered dragster.

The event also welcomed national drivers Scotty Cannon and the Prokish Motor Sports team.

Cannon is a six-time IHRA world champion.

Other special features included a pair of nostalgia funny cars from Edmonton, Alberta.

Bob Lee, manager of Alaska Raceway, said he is unsure if this identical event will be an annual event, but he is almost certain that the park will continue to offer special events similar to the Bad Boy Shootout to local racing enthusiasts in the future.
