Rain garden party

Students from Midnight Sun Charter School build a new berm around a rain garden using topsoil donated by ABC Rentals and mulch provided by the Wasilla Soil and Water Conservation District. Meadow Lakes Garden Club and Birch Creek Villa have worked with the school for several years to encourage students in gardening and conservation.

Students visit the new rain garden at Birch Creek Villa Senior Center in Meadow Lakes Sept. 28. Catherine Inman of the Wasilla Soil and Water Conservation District taught students how rain gardens catch runoff and help keep waterways clean. Students helped put mulch on the garden and also learned the motto ‘slow it down, spread it out and soak it up.’(Submitted by Patricia Fisher)
