A group of about 50 people walk down South Alaska Street in Palmer Thursday afternoon during a Choose Respect march. The group walked from Fred Meyer to the Mat-Su Borough building, where Judy Gette, Alaska Family Services’ director of domestic violence and sexual assault programs, Palmer Mayor Delena Johnson, Alaska Department of Corrections Commissioner Joe Schmidt and a domestic violence victim spoke about the growing problem of domestic violence. Thursday’s march ran in conjunction with a march in Wasilla as well as 43 other communities around the state. This is the second year for the event and was put on by Alaska Family Services in conjunction with the Governor’s Office and other nonprofit groups across the state.
