Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Ralph "Chum" George Plumley passed away Oct. 22, 2002, at his home in Eustis, Fla. He came to Palmer from Florence, Wis., in 1940 to work on his uncle Walt Marshe's dairy farm. He married Hazel Marth in 1950. After serving in the Army during WWII he worked at the MVFCA Creamery in Palmer and later worked at and retired from Alaska State Mental Hospital in Valdez. He moved back to Palmer for a couple of years and then moved to Florida.
Mr. Plumley was preceded in death by his parents, George and Eva Plumley of Palmer; brother Lloyd (Fuzz); sister Dorothy Newby; daughter Pam Vining of Florida and Eugene Plumley of Palmer.
He is survived by his wife Hazel; sisters Mary Ann Porterfield of Okeechobee, Fla., Orfa Church of Onalaska, Wash., Patricia Deland and Irene Vasanoja of Palmer; brothers Leo Plumley of Klammath Falls, Ore. and Robert (Bob) Plumley of Palmer; son-in-law Paul Vining; and grandsons Paul, Casey and Marcus Vining of Florida.
