Rams fall in Cordova tourney

CORDOVA — The Susitna Valley boys basketball squad suffered a pair of slim defeats during the Cordova Tip-Off at Cordova High School last week., On the opening night of the three-day event, host Cordova needed overtime to slip past Su Valley 47-44. The Wolverines led 19-14 at the halftime, but the Rams surrendered only 18 second-half points to Cordova to force the extra period. Marc Bartel led the Rams with 10 points, while Levi Smith added nine and Grant Hicks chipped in eight. On the following afternoon, Nenana edged SVHS 44-42. Nenana used a 17-10 run in the final quarter to stay alive in the tournament. Hicks led the Rams with 13 points, while Bartel added 10. In the girls’ tournament, Unalaska opened with a 38-21 win over Su Valley. Kritjana Timmers led the Rams with nine points. Su Valley suffered a 57-14 loss to Cordova on the second day of the tourney.
