TALKEETNA -- The Susitna Valley girl's cross-country team ran away with the Region II Championships Saturday. It marks the 10th consecutive region crown for the Rams. It is the longest streak in the state for the sport.
Susitna Valley had the top three runners in the girl's event and four of the top five. Tazlina Mannix placed first, while Jenny Thompson and Melissa Ostermick finished second and third respectively.
Krystal Moore finished fifth.
Mannix's finish set a new course record. Mannix's finish of 19:41 was four seconds ahead of the old mark. Mannix also set a personal record, and her finish was more than one minute faster than her time last year.
The race also marked the first time ever that Su Valley had two runners under the 20-minute mark.
Cook Inlet Academy took home the boy's Region II title. Su Valley finished fourth.
Peter Olson was the first Ram boy to cross the finish line, placing 12th at 18:40.
