Re-elect Michelle Church to Mat-Su Borough Assembly

To the editor:

The residents of Fairview Loop, and much of the mid-Valley, have a chance to re-elect Michelle Church to the Mat-Su Borough Assembly on Oct. 2.

This past three years in her absence, assembly member Ron Arvin has shown his disregard for the public process and voted to reduce the standards on which developers subdivide land. This irresponsible action will cost taxpayers of the borough hundreds of thousands of dollars when reduced standards for drainage and road development cause roads to fail. I’m speaking from experience as a volunteer on the Road Service Board, where I have seen firsthand how expensive it is to maintain poorly constructed roads.

I’ve watched how Arvin has a disregard for neighborhoods. An example is removing regulations for towers and now we have an out-of-state company placing towers in people’s backyards. He also voted to do away with the volunteer real property asset management board — the board that watches over the boroughs resources — and he voted against the citizen board’s recommended ethic code, making it less effective. This is the same Arvin who works in China and only attends meetings by teleconference.

From road service taxes to lack of protection, we as a community can’t afford another three years of decisions that cause our home values to tank in order to accommodate interests of various industries that don’t even have a Valley address.

I urge you to vote for Michelle Church on Oct. 2.
