This week marks National Library Week 2024, and this year’s theme is “Ready, Set, Library!”
“Libraries connect our communities and enrich our lives in ways we may not realize, and one of my greatest pleasures is discovering the unexpected and beautiful things libraries offer. From book groups to lending sports equipment to providing a safe after-school hangout space and so much more, libraries support us wherever we find ourselves on the roadmap through life’s journey,” said National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature and Newbery and Pura Belpré-award winning author Meg Medina, this year’s Honorary Chair.
First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week, is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April, celebrating the contributions of libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support.
The Willow Public Library is also honoring the week with events scheduled all week long, including a Fireside Book Fair on Friday, with proceeds going to new library books, book drawings, story time for the kids, and a separate child-free time for adults to visit the library and enjoy coffee, to name a few events planned.
Wasilla Public Library will be hosting a Library Used Book Sale on Saturday, April 13, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
The ALA also has ideas for others wanting to honor the National Library Week-simply stopping by local libraries to check out books or other great items in their collections, attend a program, or even following libraries on social media to keep updated on events and other things they have to offer.
