At 4 p.m. on Tuesday, a Ford Explorer driven by Nancy Richey rear-ended a red Pontiac G6 near Vine Rd and the Parks Hwy. When AST and AWT arrived on scene, EMS were attempting to save the life of 71-year-old Pat Buchanan of Wasilla. EMS were unable to save Buchanan, who died due to the injuries sustained during the rollover of her Explorer and subsequent ejection from the vehicle when she was struck from behind.
Police say Richey was driving on a revoked drivers license and had an active warrant for failure to appear for remand hearing from the original charge of DUI. Both vehicles were impounded and AST has notified next of kin. The investigation is currently ongoing.
