Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Rebecca M. Lahti, 85, died Jan. 9, 2006 at her home in Palmer. A memorial service has already taken place.
Ms. Lahti was born Sept. 19, 1920, in Zacatecas, Mexico. She attended business college and worked for Riverside Public Schools in California for 20 years. She retired in 1977 and moved to Alaska in 1990, living in Palmer and attendomg the United Protestant Church in Palmer.
Ms. Lahti enjoyed knitting and sewing. Her family wrote, “Becky (Rebecca) lived with Carmen Keirn, her sister, and a short time with her daughter, Sydney Lahti. She was loved for her pleasant personality, but did have Alzheimer's for six years, which continued to her death. The Alzheimers Association cared for her for years, and Hospice at the end of her life. The memorial for her was well attended. The deacons of the church, led by Krystyna Colberg, arranged it.” She is survived by her sister, Carmen Keirn. Arrangements are with Kehl's Palmer Mortuary.
