HOUSTON — Just four days into the official signing period, the petition to recall Houston Mayor Roger Purcell was returned to city hall with 143 signatures of support.
The petition only required the names of 73 registered Houston voters, but the organizer said she wanted extra in case some where thrown out.
“I have not checked their voter registration, but the city clerk will be verifying the signatures,” Kathleen Baken-Barney said. “We just want to make sure we are covered.”
By law, the clerk has 10 days to verify the petition. It will then be presented to the city council at its next meeting. The council will set a date for a special election to bring the question to the voters.
