Reconsider development decision

To the editor,

Change is always seen if you live somewhere long enough. Unfortunately I am afraid that my husband and I will witness a very sad change in the community we decided to retire in. My husband has lived and worked in Palmer over 70 years. Myself over 40 years retiring from the Pioneers home after 20 years. We have loved this place and the fact it kept its small town feel, while Wasilla has burst at the seams with subdivisions, strip malls and outlets. We hoped by moving into Mountain Rose East the open spaces and safe quiet atmosphere would always remain so.

The proposed high density affordable housing project that is possibly going to be built behind Mountain Rose Estates will make a devastating life style change to so many of us seniors living in the two Mountain Roses. The wonderful bike path that has been provided and maintained by the city is used by many of us here all year long. It is a safe place to walk and get some exercise which we do almost daily. But what will it become with 88 more families using it? Congested with unsupervised children, loose dogs ,skate boards and litter? How sad not to feel comfortable on a daily stroll. Walking there at night would become a thing of the pass. Must every open field in Palmer be filled with houses and too narrow streets ? The impact on our schools would be dramatic, they are overcrowded now! Please, those in charge of making this decision reconsider.
