Just hours after the federal government shutdown began, official at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) announced that all recreational access at the base is closed until further notice and the website will not be updated due to the federal government shutdown.
“This decision was made in coordination with JBER Environmental Conservation, Conservation Law Enforcement, and Range Control officials, who determined that suspending public access is the safest course of action during shutdown and furlough status,” JBER posted in a press release.
During the closure, all recreational areas at JBER will remain off-limits to the public. Commanders may continue scheduled military training, but non-mission essential personnel will not be permitted access until further notice.
JBER leadership appreciates the public’s understanding and cooperation as the installation prioritizes the safety of its personnel, community, and ongoing military missions.
Updates regarding the status of recreational access will be provided when available.
