Live Christmas trees can be recycled from Dec. 28 to Jan. 15, 2015 in the Palmer CARRS Safeway store parking lot, thanks to a partnership between Alaskans for Litter Prevention and Recycling and Municipality of Anchorage Solid Waste Services. Remove all decorations and tree stands and plastic bags. Wreathes are not accepted. Trees are chipped and distributed to local non-profits and agencies for trail cover, erosion control, and fragrant mulch for landscaping.

Last year, residents recycled approximately 8,000 trees. Another 8,000 and 10,000 Christmas trees are expected to be recycled this year.

Artificial trees can be recycled at donation centers such as Salvation Army, Bishops Attic or Value Village.

Wrapping paper and gift boxes can be recycled with mixed paper at the Valley Community for Recycling Solutions, 9465 E. Chanlyut Circle, Palmer.
