To the editor:
I have known the mayor for several years personally, both as an attorney and the mayor of our fair town.
After seeing another article in the paper against him, I couldn’t hold my voice any longer.
Mayor Verne Rupright is an honest fair man who is working hard for our city and to make the best decisions that will benefit Wasilla as a whole. I don’t understand the people who aren’t standing up for him. If you don’t stand up for him you are standing against him.
I believe these smears in the newspaper are a political tactic to smear his name and get someone’s friend elected as mayor. I have talked with the mayor about these articles and believe what he is telling me about the situation with an alleged REDDI report. I have known him long enough to know he would not drive impaired at any time, and especially with his child in the vehicle.
So why is anyone fighting his request to have WPD investigate any time a Wasilla employee is reported by REDDI? That makes perfectly good sense to me as a resident of Wasilla. Considering the liability to the city if an employee is driving under the influence doesn’t it just seem appropriate that the reports be investigated? Isn’t it also the law?
