The Redington Huskies girls wrestling team brought some hardware back to the Valley.
The Huskies earned the girls team title during the Kachemak Conference Championships wrestling tournament at Kenai Central High School.
Redington finished with 168 total points in the team standings, more than twice that of runner-up Nikiski (79 points). Houston was fifth with 54 points.
Five Huskies won their weight class and earned the conference’s lone automatic bid to the ASAA/First National Bank Division II State Wrestling Championships, which start Friday at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage.
Ashlynn Akers (100 pounds), Annareese Carroll (107), Bahleigh Grube (132), Alejandra Roman (138) and Josephine Granger (145) each finished first for Redington.
Sophia Dickson placed first for Houston at 114.
The Redington boys finished third in the team standings with 174 points. The top three teams were separated by less than five points. Kenai won the title with 178.5 points, and Nikiski was second at 177.
Myles Campbell led Redington with an individual title at 145. Aidan Laselle also reached the finals and placed second at 14o. Robel Butler (125), Wyatt Milnes (171) and Triston Charley (189) placed third. The top three wrestlers in each class advance to state.
Eli Banks (130) and Terje McClurg (160) advanced to the finals and placed second for Houston.
