WASILLA — The Redington girls basketball team was within reach of its first varsity win in school history, but the Homer Mariners had just enough to get past the Huskies.
Homer earned its first win of the 2016-17 season, beating Redington, a first-year varsity program, 36-35 Saturday afternoon in Homer.
Redington led 18-17 at halftime and outscored the Mariners 11-8 in the final quarter, but Homer had an 11-6 run in the third quarter.
Courtney Crockett scored a career-high 23 points in the loss. Abbie Fuller added seven.
The game at Homer was part of a three-game road trip for the Huskies. Friday, Redington suffered a 57-15 loss at Nikiski. Crockett led her squad with seven points. The trip started with a 47-31 loss at Seward Thursday. Crockett scored a team-high 14. Fuller added 11.
The Redington boys were also in action on the road. Nikiski beat Redington 65-24 on Friday. Seward scored the 65-19 victory over the Huskies Thursday.
