Lexi Seymore continues to make school history.

Seymore is Redington’s all-time leading scorer. She helped the Huskies earn a state tournament berth for the first time. Now Seymore has something else to add to the list.

Seymore has been named the Wasilla Physical Therapy/Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches 3A Girls Player of the Year.

Redington head coach Dawn Seymore said Lexi is the ultimate teammate. But part of her evolution as a player is knowing that it is alright to take control.

“She’s really stepped it up in realizing she can be selfish and still lead her team to success,” the head coach said. “We’ve always told her, Lexi shoot the ball. Lexi, you have a higher percentage of making that shot. But she loves to see her teammates be successful. When her teammates score she has the biggest smile on her face. But this year it just clicked. She realized she’s still able to lead her team, let them have success. But taking more control gives (the team) more success.”

The results are an outstanding senior season. She enters the state tournament with 416 points, 225 rebounds and 115 assists, and averaged 18 points per game. Lexi Seymore now has more than 1,200 points and 800 rebounds, both school records, in her four-year varsity career with the Huskies.

Seymore is one of five Valley players to be named first-team all-state. Wasilla’s Bella Hays and Colony’s Hallie Clark earned first-team honors for the 4A girls, Houston’s Hayden Howard was named first-team for the 3A boys, and Susitna Valley’s Bryson Jolley was first team for the 2A boys.

Colony’s Kash Luce and Jayce Underwood were named second-team for the 4A boys. Wasilla’s Mylee Anderson and Layla Hays were named second team for the 4A girls. Houston’s Braden Cork and Cody Wyrick were second team for the 3A boys. Susitna Valley’s India Roderick was second team for the 2A girls.

Colony’s Kaylee Wilks, Redington’s Logan Seymore, Houston’s Emily Bitler and Anna Whitted, Redington’s Destiny Simmons and Susitna Valley’s Emma Kehoe were all named to the third team of their respective classes.

Houston’s Ted Van Dussen (3A boys) and Mike Matthews (2A boys) were named coach of the year.
