Redoubt blows, no ash fall expected

Mount Redoubt erupted twice this morning, first at 8:34 then again at 9:24. The first eruption was a small event, but the second sent ash to 60,000 feet and was comparable to the eruption on Sunday, according to Chris Waythomas at the Alaska Volcano Observatory. The winds are blowing to the northeast, but there is currently an ash fall advisory only for the western Kenai Peninsula.

The Alaska Volcano Observatory Web site reports that high level ash (above 30,000 feet) is forecast to pass over Anchorage, but is not expected to produce ash fall.

Updates will be posted as they become available.
