Reflections Lake to be stocked with rainbow trout Friday

MAT-SU — Alaska Department of Fish and Game has issued an emergency order expanding the bag and possession limit for rainbow trout in Reflections Lake.

The emergency order issued July 2 increases the bag and possession limit for rainbow trout in Reflections Lake to five per day and five in possession, of which only one may be 20 inches or greater in length. This emergency order is effective beginning at 6 a.m., July 6 through 11:59 p.m., Dec. 31 unless superseded by subsequent emergency order.

The change comes on the heels of a stocking effort that will add 500 catchable rainbow trout to Reflections Lake on July 6.

Reflections Lake was created in the 1960s when a gravel pit dug during the construction of the Glenn Highway flooded with groundwater. Over the past 10 years, state and federal agencies, along with many community partners, have worked to convert the site into a family friendly recreation area open to hunting, fishing, bird watching and other refuge-related activities.

The Reflections Lake recreation site features restroom facilities, a trail around the lake and access in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
