Local 4A and 3A prep volleyball squads will hit the court for region championship weekend starting Thursday.
Colony, Wasilla and Palmer are in Soldotna for the Northern Lights Conference Championships at the 4A level. Houston is hosting the 3A Southcentral Conference Championships, a tourney that also includes Redington.
Colony and Wasilla both finished 5-3 in NLC play during the regular season, and are the second and third seeds in the tourney. The rivals meet Thursday at 5 p.m. Fourth-seeded Palmer (3-5) meets fifth-seeded Kodiak (0-8) in the opening match of the tourney, Thursday at 3 p.m. The Palmer-Kodiak winner plays top-seeded Soldotna (7-1) Thursday at 7 p.m.
The top three teams in the NLC tourney advance to ASAA 4A state championships.
Houston is the No. 3 seed from the Southcentral North, and plays Kenai Thursday at 11:45 a.m. Fourth-seeded Redington meets Nikiski at 3:15 p.m.
