I have noticed that the Wasilla Police no longer provide the names of people arrested for DUI. It appears that the new chief is taking the department backwards. He feels that if someone wants that information, they can apply for it.
Perhaps this attitude passes for proactive law enforcement in Texas, but this is not Texas.
This policy also is in conflict with the Alaska Constitution – see Article 1, Section 12:
Criminal administration shall be based upon the following:
• The need for protecting the public;
• Community condemnation of the offender.
The new chief can make all the excuses he wants; they don’t wash. He is part of the DUI problem.
