Renewable Energy Fair scheduled for Saturday

ANCHORAGE - The Alaska Renewable Energy Fair will be held from noon to 10 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 13, on the Delaney Park Strip.

Renewable Energy Alaska Project will host the free event, which will feature expert speakers, workshops, films, informational booths, hybrid cars, solar- and wind-energy demonstrations, live music, and craft and food vendors.

Randy Udall, director of the Community Office for Resource Efficiency in Aspen, Colo., and Angus Duncan, president and chief executive officer of the Bonneville Environmental Foundation in Portland, Ore., will speak at 4 p.m.

Local artists scheduled to perform are The Whipsaws, The Emeralds, Jared Woods, Los Gringos Al Mundo, Elite 9, and Spiff.

Workshops will include presentations on Fire Island wind power, Alaska geothermal, landfill gas for Anchorage, Alaska biodiesel, clean hydrogen for transportation, tidal power, home energy efficiency, wind in Alaska's villages, residential systems, green building, peak oil and climate change.

REAP is a coalition of urban and rural Alaska utilities, businesses, consumer and conservation groups, and Alaska Native interests that shares the goal of increasing the development of Alaska's vast wind, geothermal, biomass, hydro, tidal and solar energy resources.
