To the editor:
I am the owner of a small business in Wasilla and I’m very concerned about how the health insurance tax will negatively impact businesses and consumers here in Alaska. This is not something that we should have to contend with during these challenging economic times.
The company I run is called Flawless Construction. We have been in business since 2006 and have six full-time employees. Currently, we’re unable to provide health care coverage for our employees due to the high costs. If the tax is allowed to take effect, the insurance companies will pass down the cost of the tax to businesses like ours, making it even more difficult for us to provide health care coverage to our employees in the future. These higher costs would ultimately affect our community as well, since we would not be able to continue providing quality construction services at our current rates.
Our elected officials need to vote in support of S 603 and HR 763 to repeal this tax and protect small businesses in our country.
