Republican club has a lot to offer

Letter to the editor:

A few months ago I joined the Mat-Su Republican Women’s Club. I’ve never been someone who gets involved in political clubs and have always done a lot of research during election time and praying and then voting my conscience. However, a friend of mine invited me to a meeting and when I heard that this club has been around since 1947 I figured it must have something good going for it.

It does.

I’ve met great women who care about our country and our freedoms and are deeply committed to our soldiers. This club has raised a lot of money for these things so important to them and have helped support some candidates who run for office. There are speakers at our meetings who are involved in our local and state and federal government, as well as question-and-answer time with candidates running for local offices, such as MEA and MTA. It has been a very enlightening past few months for me.

The Republican Party has been given some negative publicity because of severely biased media reporting the past year. It amazes me that folks naively believe all they read in newspapers and see on national TV. The Republican Party is based on each person’s personal dignity, freedom, free enterprise, equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity regardless of race, creed, age, sex. Our Constitution is to be backed and protected and the folks we elect to represent us need to do just that. They are not elected to do their will, but the will of the people. Republicans are conservative and patriotic people. How can they throw dirt on all of that?

Our women’s club will be having its annual fundraiser next month at Evangelo’s. A scrumptious prime rib dinner, silent auction and an out cry auction, music and our guest speaker will be Don Young. We will be honoring our military with veterans from each war.

It will be an awesome way to spend a cold winter night. Plus, you will be helping to raise money that our club can use to support our candidates that will be running in this critical year of elections, as well as other programs we support. This Lincoln’s Day Dinner will be by ticket only and there is limited seating. Give us a call for more information to Sandy at 357-7870.

Our next meeting is Jan. 16 at noon at Evangelo’s in Wasilla.
