Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Today was Super Tuesday; it has been in the news for weeks now. I, like many others, headed to the polls only to find our normal polling places closed without even a sign on the door giving the alternative place to go.
Being on the road at the time, some calling revealed the polling place for me was the Palmer Train Depot. So, from the Butte Fire Hall at 2:30 I headed to Palmer, only to find that closed also, with a sign saying “OPEN AT 4:30.” Was this a joke? Well, I should have saved that part for later.
After driving all the way back I found a line outside, a very slow-moving line. Now 5 p.m., the weather at the Palmer Airport reported 4 degrees, wind blowing 8 mph and gusting to 30 mph. Twenty-five minutes later I was inside, and after another 35 minutes, I cast my vote.
For myself it was not bad, however, there were many who looked at the line and left, not to return. Some older people and young were very cold, and bless the heart of the woman who toughed it out in the wheelchair.
In my opinion it was a poor, mismanaged event. Personally I would tar and feather the person responsible because may people did not vote.
A larger building, such as Raven Hall at the fairgrounds, with early entrance, and better communications would be more prudent than what we had today!
