To the editor,
I am an occupant of Mountain Rose Estates East Condominiums; a condo project near the proposed high density affordable housing project.
My husband and I lived in Anchorage for 34 years. After a stint in a rural community in the Lower 48 we returned to Alaska.
We choose the place we were going to live by evaluating the things that were important to us. Being seniors, quality of life was a priority.
Of importance was being in a small rural type town like where we came from with close proximity to a grocery store, doctors, dentists, a safe place to walk and ride bikes, and a quiet community. Also important was a low traffic area for personal reasons.
The location of Mountain Rose Estates East met these needs and more. Not only was there a senior facility nearby, but additional senior care housing and access to indoor walking facilities in the winter months.
The surrounding area of Mt. Rose Estates East was not congested and we anticipated that it would remain this way as the tract of land nearby, i.e. the proposed high density site was zoned R 1.
Putting a high density 88-unit complex on this tract of land will negatively impact all the seniors who chose to live in this serene area that is close to the golf course and senior facilities.
High traffic, noise, and increased safety risk changes the life style we all chose. All of our dreams of living in a content environment should not be shattered by developing a project that doesn't fit the neighborhood especially when the zoning did not allow it when we all chose to live here.
