As day broke Monday morning, residents awoke to heavy snowfall totals, with cars and trucks nearly covered in snow, plows clearing roads, and most of the schools in the Mat-Su Borough on remote learning day, with a few schools with a late start.
Much of Southcentral Alaska has been digging out from over a foot of snow that fell overnight from Sunday to Monday as it officially reached the 100-inch mark.
After days of relentless bitter cold, the Southcentral is gearing up for snow, with some areas expected to see snow measuring in feet, while other areas will see inches of accumulation beginning Sunday and into Monday.
While the National Weather Service had issued several winter weather advisories to areas throughout the Matanuska and Susitna Valleys had called for total snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches, many areas woke to more snow than that, with some areas seeing one foot or more.
For most areas, snow as tapered off to flurries or has stopped altogether. Currently, there are no snow events forecasted for the next week, though temperatures are expected to dip back to subzero territories again, with lows hitting -21 or colder, especially out towards Talkeetna and Glennallen.
