WASILLA — Mat-Su Borough School District Spanish Spelling Bee finalists spent the morning buzzing with excitement as they demonstrated tremendous talent at the annual Deletreo de Español March 4.

Of the 38 finalists, 17 were Fronteras students, and the other 21 finalists in the 2014 Spanish language spelling bee came from five other district schools — Colony High School, Fronteras, Houston High School, Mat-Su Central, Palmer High School and Wasilla High School.

It was amazing to see and hear students spell words that increased in difficulty with each round. It was during Round 6 that the winners emerged. The winning word was “multinacional,” spelled by first-place winner Jeffrey Reynolds.

Thanks to Palmer High School for hosting the competition and to the parents who drove students to and from the competition. Organizers thanked Palmer High for hosting the event.
