Rhonda Atkins

December 17, 1947 - February 20, 2026 Rhonda Jo Atkins, born on December 17, 1947, in Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026, in Wasilla, Alaska, surrounded by the love of her family. Rhonda spent her early years in Houston before moving to Hollywood, California, where she enjoyed swimming, surfing, trips to Disneyland, and carrying instruments from gig to gig for The beach boys. As a teenager, she relocated to Paradise, California, where she met her future husband, Monty Atkins, at Paradise High School. After having three children, Rhonda was tricked into moving to Wasilla, Alaska. She worked for over 20 years at Wasilla High School, forming lifelong friendships with staff and creating cherished memories with students who fondly remembered her long after graduation. Her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren. She was blessed to live long enough to become a great-great-grandmother. Rhonda was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Margaret Balch; many beloved aunts and uncles; her husband, Monty Atkins; and her cherished grandson Casey Douglas. She is survived by her children: Lissa Atkins and Adam Bakos; Matt and Brandy Atkins; and Amy and Brandon Gayman. She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Cameron and Amber Douglas, Courtney and Josh Liffick, Danee and Cliff Cox, Henry Gayman, Avery Gayman, Claire Atkins, and Owen Atkins; as well as her great-grandchildren: Gabi and Donnovan, Maggie, Grace, Gwen, Myla, Maddox, Raegan; and great-great-grandson Daniel. Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Primrose Retirement and Ancora for their care and support. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date. Rhonda and her husband Monty will be inurned together in Paradise, California. At the end of her life, Rhonda expressed that she had enjoyed her life and her parting words were "Have fun."
