Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Sutton resident Richard E. Moore, 57, died Dec. 2, 2003, of natural causes at his home in Sutton. A private memorial will be held for family and invited friends.
Mr. Moore was born Aug. 2, 1946, in Salinas, Calif. He came to Alaska in August 1996 where he was a resident of Sutton. Mr. Moore worked as a mechanic for 35 years and also had a woodcutting business with his boys. He retired in 1990.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a Vietnam veteran and received the Medal of Honor and three Purple Hearts for Bravery Beyond the Call of Duty.
His hobbies included fishing and working on cars.
His family wrote, "Dick was a great husband and father. He adored his family and was a warrior. He never gave up. Although he is gone, he is still here in our hearts and memories forever. He was loved and adored by all and did the best at everything he did. He will be missed. He is now free and home watching over us."
He is survived by his wife Verda; children Michael, Richard, Theora, Vera, Joshua, Russell, Jeremy, Myron and Diane; grandchildren Amber, Sabastian, James, Matthew and Dominic; adopted family members Nickey, Jason, Tracy and Cheri; brothers Robert and Ronnie; sisters Rose, Rosalie, Ruth and Robin; and numerous friends.
Arrangements were handled by Kehl's Palmer Mortuary.
