Longtime Wasilla resident Rick Lockhart, 45, died at home in Wasilla from cancer on April 16, 2004, surrounded by family.

A private celebration of life was held April 18 at a close friend's home in Palmer. Cremation took place at Valley Funeral Home.

Mr. Lockhart was born March 23, 1959, in Tacoma, Wash.

He graduated from Kettle Falls High School in 1977. He married Corine Locke and together they have one son, Daniel.

He came to Alaska in the early 1980s while working for a utility contractor. He worked for various companies throughout the state of Alaska contributing to the construction industry. For the last seven years he enjoyed employment as project manager with Cruz Construction Inc. in Palmer.

Mr. Lockhart enjoyed spending time with his wife and son and working on their farm.

His family wrote, "Rick had a heart of gold and was always helping others. His wonderful smile, sense of humor and extreme work ethic touched many people. We will greatly miss him and he will always have a special place in our hearts."

He is survived by his wife Corine and son Daniel, both of Wasilla; children Alicia and Colten of Wasilla; brother and sister-in-law Terry and Melodee Lockhart of Tacoma, Wash.; parents Ralph and Wendy Lockhart and sister Wendy Schommer, all of Washington; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Mr. Lockhart was preceded in death by all his grandparents.

Valley Funeral Home and Crematory was in charge of arrangements.
