Riders brave cold to compete on Knik Lake

KNIK LAKE — Nearly 50 competitors braved bitter temperatures to compete in the Knik Lake vintage snomachine races Sunday on Knik Lake.

Temperatures reached a high of only 20 below, but participants raced in seven different classes of the event presented by Valley MotorSports. The races were organized by the Mat-Su Vintage Snowmachine Racing Club.

Women’s open:

1. Kelcey Moe, Yamaha Excel V540; 2. Aimee Martinez, Polaris Centurion; 3. Christina Sena, Yamaha SRX440.

Junior 10-15:

1. Luke Coverdell, Arctic Cat el Tigre 400; 2. Kade Parker, Arctic Cat el Tigre Jag; 3. Vincent Coverdell, Polaris Colt SS.

Single cylinder and 0-250cc Fan/FA twin:

1. Lucas Parker, Polaris Colt 250.

Over 45 open:

1. Craig Clayton, Yamaha SRX440; 2. Dan Coverdell, Arctic Cat el Tigre 5000; 3. Chuck Balzarini, Ski-Doo Blizzard 9500; 4. Jim Miller, Arctic Cat Pantera 5000.

0-340cc Fan/FA:

1. Lucas Parker, Arctic Cat el Tigre; 2. Mike Johnson, Arctic Cat el Tigre 340; 3. Dave Jensen, Polaris Apollo; 4. JC Collvins, Yamaha ET300.
