Rifle fired during Palmer dispute

PALMER — A Palmer man is in jail after police say he fired off two rounds from a rifle during an argument with a woman in a local trailer court.

Thomas Riordan Fryer, 23, is charged with reckless endangerment and second- and fourth-degree weapons misconduct, according to a Palmer Police Department press statement.

Jason Crockett and two others responded to the call Sunday, Detective Kelly Turney said.

Fryer was intoxicated and had been arguing with the woman at a trailer in Felzine’s trailer court just north of the Palmer Courthouse, Turney said. At some point, Fryer grabbed an AR-15 .223-caliber rifle and threatened to kill himself.

Eventually, he turned the rifle away from himself and toward the trailer’s east wall and fired off two rounds, Turney said.

The direction of the shots sent them toward a neighboring trailer, Turney said. The fourth-degree misconduct charge is for firing a weapon while intoxicated; the second-degree charge for firing in the direction of a building.

Turney said that when officers arrived, Fryer fled on foot, but was apprehended soon after, not far from the trailer.

Fryer was jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on $15,000 bail with a court-approved, third-party requirement, according to the police statement.
