Road crews causing needless delays

As a former road crew worker, I have always tried my best to defend the men and women doing their job on the various road projects. It’s a given that people will get upset when they have to wait and I have made a real effort to offer the “flip side of the coin” to my friends when they complain.

However, I cannot in good faith make that effort for the crew out on the Old Glenn Highway. They have no shame about making a bad situation worse. After waiting patiently for the pilot car, drivers must then wait additional time so that the driver of the pilot car and the flagger can spend a few minutes joking around or having an otherwise non-work related conversation (our windows are down you know! We can hear you!) And it gets no better once you’re finally moving; the pilot car drivers have no qualms about stopping along the way for a minute to chat with a work buddy (again, don’t tell us it’s ‘work related’ when we can clearly hear you!). Shame on you for leaving those of us that have defended you looking silly.
