Fifteen local athletes were named to the Alaska Road Warriors legion baseball team this week.
The list includes 11 who played high school baseball this season and four who are former prep athletes from the Valley.
Due to a recently passed rule, players up to the age of 19 can now play legion baseball.
Former Colony Knights Jordan Chadwell and Alan Morlan and Wasilla grads Clayton McCaul and Travis Webb took advantage of the new rule.
"Ideally it is good," Alaska head coach Pete Powell said of the new rule. "It allows more people to play."
Powell said that it will not only increase the number of athletes on the varsity legion team, but also boost the number of players on the junior varsity roster.
"We have 17 on the junior varsity," Powell said. "Overall that will be good for the future."
There are five athletes on the 2003 roster that just completed their high school season with the Colony Knights. Jason Semler, John Coan, Josh Morlan, Joe Hess, Walter Scott and Dude Hooser each traded the green and black Colony uniform for Alaska's red and gray.
Wasilla High School's Jimbo Ressler, Dan Mahoney and Shane Colgrove are also on the squad.
Rounding out the team is Valdez High School's Matt Smith.
The Road Warriors will play in 21 regular season games this year and at least two tournaments.
The district tournament is July 26-28 in Kenai and the state tourney is Aug. 1.
