Road Warriors host legion tourney

The Alaska Road Warriors American Legion baseball squad will host the annual Todd Ryan Memorial Tournament this weekend at the Lou McManus Field at the Bumpus Complex.

The Service and Dimond posts from Anchorage and a squad from Rhode Island will compete in the three-day tourney. Action begins today with the Road Warriors facing Dimond at 4 p.m., followed by Rhode Island and Service at 7 p.m.

The Road Warriors enter the tournament with a 3-9 record.

"We have some new faces," Road Warrior head coach Pete Powell said. "We are still putting things together."

Though Alaska has several new players to the squad, a group of athletes have returned from last season.

Leading the cast of legion veterans, according to Powell, are Jimbo Ressler and David Sandvick, formerly of Wasilla High School, Colony High School graduates Dude Hoosier and John Coan and Matt Smith, of Valdez High School.
